Human Resources Assistant

Position Summary:
The Human Resources Assistant will provide administrative support to the Advancement Division's Director of Human Resources as well as support staffing and transactional HR activities within University Advancement. The assistant will support recruitment and advertising by posting positions; communicating with candidates, search committee members and liaisons; coordinating recruitment documentation; preparing travel reimbursements and payments, and collecting the required search materials and follow-up documentation. These actions will be completed following university guidelines and procedures. The Assistant will also support the Divisional HR Director with completing transactional paperwork related to employee activities (i.e., employee relations, compensation, etc.); assist with reporting on the tracking of HR projects and activities; assist with employee file maintenance in conjunction with guidelines and practices established by the Advancement Division's Business Services department; and assist with organizational chart maintenance.

Required Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a Human Resource environment within an academic or professional office setting.
- Demonstrated experience handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Demonstrated experience maintaining complex schedules and calendars.
- Demonstrated proficiency using software applications such as Microsoft Office and Outlook calendaring.
- Ability to organize, plan, prioritize work, meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly in a professional and courteous manner as well as interact respectfully and comfortably with all individuals in a diverse, multicultural environment.
- Good organizational and time management skills demonstrating ability to handle large volume of activity to maintain accurate, readily available information.
- Ability to compose, edit and prepare high quality, professional written communications.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision and manage multiple tasks simultaneously with attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working in a Human Resources office processing and/or administrating Human Resources related paperwork or activities.
- Experience with electronic applicant tracking systems or Human Resource information system.
- Experience with large relational databases (e.g. Banner).
- Demonstrated experience with records management.
- Knowledge of university and/or state hiring practices.
- Working knowledge of Virginia Tech or state Human Resources policies and procedures.
- Working knowledge of Virginia Tech Foundation, Inc. policies and procedures.
