APPLICATIONS AND DATA COORDINATOR, Political Science, to assist the principal investigator (PI) with developing a large-scale database on lobbying and examining the roles of special interest groups and lobbyists in the legislative process in the U.S. by creating, developing, and maintaining an online database for public access, using Python and SQL and web-development tools. Will aid faculty and collaborate with other developers on large-scale database development, creating a web-interface, and database management. Responsibilities include working on data-intensive research projects, maintaining cloud-based servers (such as Amazon Web Services), and supervising undergraduate research assistants. Data-intensive research projects will involve compiling (via web scraping, for example) and cleaning data, analyzing data using machine learning models and graphical visualization, and maintaining websites (www.lobbyview.org) that make the data available publicly. Maintenance of cloud-based servers will involve the development of various back-end utilities for building the LobbyView database and optimizing the performance of the web-interface. Will also support public users in the use of this environment through emails, online discussion forum, and documentation as needed. Will report to the PI with minimal supervision.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: B.A./B.S. in computer science, or related technical field; at least one year of work experience; knowledge of Python, SQL, HTML/CSS, and JavaScript; willingness to learn additional tools as needed; experience with cloud servers such as AWS: ability to work both independently with general supervision and as part of a team. Familiarity with web development tools such as jQuery, Bootstrap, Pug, and D3 and an interest in a substantive area of political science such as political representation preferred. Job #15953-6
