Sociology, Full-Time Temporary, Distance Learning Faculty

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology seeks applicants for a full-time, temporary distance learning faculty position (#129100) at the rank of Lecturer. Start date for the position is August 1, 2018. This is a one-year temporary position with possible annual renewal for up to three years total.

The position requires the online lecturer to regularly and predictably be available to online students both in class and office hours. The posted online office hours should be the same number of hours as required of FTTs teaching on-campus courses. The person hired for the position must be a resident of Tennessee by appointment date and will be required to meet occasionally with the chair of the department or MTSU administration as requested. All travel expenses are the responsibility of the faculty member. Prior to beginning the teaching of online courses, the faculty must receive the appropriate online training and/or certification to teach both MTSU and TN3Campus online classes.

The position requires knowledge and experience with online learning management systems, preferably D2L Brightspace. The person hired will be expected to regularly engage students via Brightspace, including email, online discussion forums, and chat; to promptly respond to student inquiries and questions; to grade assignments in a timely manner. While not required, the selected individual is encouraged to attend department meetings and functions.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach five online courses each semester, including some combination of Introductory Sociology, Social Problems, Marriage and Family, Gender and Society, Sociology of Family, Sociology of Work, Social Deviance, Criminology, Juvenile Delinquency, Drugs and Society, and Sociology of Religion.
