Applications are now being accepted for the position of Assistant Professor, Computer and Information Science at San Diego City College, beginning fall 2018. One of the three colleges in the San Diego Community College District, City College is an urban campus, minutes away from a world-class zoo and Balboa Park, providing academic and career education offerings to meet the needs of a diverse student population. While the current vacancy is at City College, applicants should understand that they are subject to assignment at any District facility at the option of the Chancellor. The assignment may include some combination of online, day, evening, Saturday and/or off-campus classes. This position reports to the Dean of Business, Information Technology, and Cosmetology.

Major Responsibilities:
Teach lower division courses related to computer and information science with a commitment to maintaining college level standards. Current courses include Introduction, Ruby on Rails, C/C++, C#, Java, Visual Basic, Python, relational database theory, and structured query language to include SQL and PHP. Work collaboratively with department and inter-disciplinary faculty to teach, plan, develop and implement courses in Computer and Information Science that will provide technical/professional training and preparation for transfer to 4-year institutions. The future direction of the program may include topics like microcontrollers, robotics, fundamental electronics /engineering, mobile computing, game programming, database design and development, and mobile app development. Maintain currency in industry trends and technology innovations for the development of new courses and curriculum revisions so as to meet industry objectives, emerging occupations, and university transfer requirements. Participate in departmental and faculty functions including program review, development and assessment of student learning outcomes, student advisement, training and evaluation of adjunct faculty, and varied campus affairs including service on college-wide committees. Collaborate with industry, community, and/or professional organizations on curriculum, partnership development and labor market needs. Work effectively with students from a variety of cultural, educational, and occupational backgrounds.

Qualifications:
Any bachelors degree AND two years of professional experience,ORany associate degree AND six years of professional experience.

Desired Qualifications:
A Masters degree in a related field is preferred.The successful candidate should demonstrate evidence of: Knowledge, experience and/or academic preparation to teach college level computer related curricula, including a familiarity with a wide variety of computer applications, robotics, microcontrollers, electronics, internet of things (IOT), game programming, database design and programming, secure coding, and mobile app development. Knowledge and experience in computer programming at the lower-division college level and demonstrated ability to teach current courses of C++ (introductory to advanced), Visual Basic, PHP, SQL, Java , Ruby on Rails, data structures, and Python. Knowledge of multiple disciplines beyond Computer and Information Science and insight into opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration such as Physics, Engineering and Math related fields up to and including Calculus and Analytic Geometry for university transfer courses. Professional work experience in computer software systems, microcontroller programming, robotics, and networking in industry or academia. Evidence of commitment to remain current in the Computer and Information Science discipline, and to its instructional program. Proficiency in structuring, delivering, and communicating computer related education using innovative approaches and multiple delivery mechanisms such as lecture, laboratory, computer applications, project-based assignments, survey exercises, media techniques, and online education. Working knowledge of, and experience in, learning styles and teaching techniques. Experience in the development and/or review of courses and curriculum. Ability to work collegially and collaboratively with faculty, within and outside of the department to collaborate, teach, plan, and implement courses in Computer Information Science. Commitment to supporting departmental and college missions, including the ability to work with faculty, staff, students, and the community in a variety of on- and off-campus activities. Experience and commitment to building community relationships, industry partnerships, and maintain an advisory committee. Demonstrated ability to think with agility both creatively and critically, and ability to communicate effectively both in oral and written forms. Ability to contribute to the mission of the college.

Pay Information:
Class 1, Step A Class 6, Step C ($5,754.92 $7,754.42) per month based on the current AFT College Faculty Tenured- Tenured Track Monthly Salary Schedule

Initial salary placement for this Assistant Professor is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.2 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and it is non-negotiable. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code 87815, any required adjustment will be made with-in the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). Typically, Assistant Professors earn tenure after 4 years and promote to Associate Professor.
