Temporary Summer Grounds Worker Pool

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Grounds Supervisor, the Temporary Summer Grounds Worker supports the Facilities Department in the installation and maintenance of the university grounds by operating various trucks, commercial-type riding mowers, push mowers, leaf vacs, farm tractors with attachments, rototillers, chainsaws, weed eaters, and small power and hand tools. The position performs daily routine maintenance such as checking oil and fluid levels, inspecting belts, and sharpening blades.
Emergency Hire opportunities are limited to 130 calendar days of employment.

Required Qualifications:
- Must be 16 years or older at the time of employment.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Must have the ability to safely operate commercial-type mowers, tractors, and power tools.
- Must have the ability to perform required duties safely in a densely populated area.
- Must have the ability to safely and frequently move and handle heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds or more; maneuver materials up and down stairs; ability to climb and work from elevated workstations such as ladders and scaffolds; and work for long periods of time standing, walking, reaching, bending, pushing/pulling.
- Must be able to communicate effectively, work as an effective team member, and receive and execute instructions from the immediate supervisor and/or lead worker.
- Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.
- May be required to work additional hours/shifts to meet the needs of the department.

Preferred Qualifications:
- General/manual labor related experience.
- Previous experience in grounds care in an institutional or commercial setting.
- Experience using commercial riding mowers, tractors, small power and hand tools.
- Experience working with heavy equipment such as dump trucks, backhoes, etc.
- Experience performing grounds maintenance in populated areas.
- Pesticide Registered Technician Certification.
