Position Summary
The Reproductive & Developmental Sciences Training Program ( http://rdstp.canr.msu.edu ) at Michigan State University announces available Research Associate (postdoctoral) positions for research in Programmatic High Priority Topic Areas identified by the NICHD/Fertility and Infertility Branch and the Gynecologic Health and Disease Branch.

The program is supported by a T32 award from NICHD and provides training opportunities for eligible postdoctoral trainees in the laboratories of our 17 Faculty Trainers based in East Lansing or Grand Rapids, MI. The trainers are world-renowned for their research, and offer training in cutting-edge methodologies and diverse model systems.

There are 4 major areas of specialization:
  • Gonad, Gamete, & Embryo Biology
  • Developmental Genetics & Stem Cells
  • Women's Health & Maternal-Fetal Interactions
  • Reproductive Toxicology & Developmental Origins of Health and Disease

Trainees acquire competencies in hypothesis-driven basic, applied, clinical, and translational research in developmental biology & embryology, molecular & cellular biology, reproductive physiology, genome editing, epigenetics, and bioinformatics/genomics biology, and skills for successful professional development.

Salary is commensurate with experience according to NIH stipend levels.

This position is based on a NIH T32 training grant, and eligibility criteria for the training program requires that candidates are a permanent resident or citizen of the United States, and have a doctoral degree in clinical science or basic science.

Specific Position Duties
  • Research (80%)
    • Perform experiments using advanced biomedical research techniques
    • Develop new methods/applications
    • Maintain accurate records and follow all MSU guidelines for research
    • Writing scientific publications
    • Present the results at national and international scientific meeting
    • Write and submit grant applications to major funding agencies
  • Training (20%)
    • As part of the T32 training program the postdoctoral trainees are expected to actively participate in the following:
      • Journal Club
      • Research in Progress meetings
      • RDSP Distinguished Lecture and RDSP Seminar Series
      • Annual RDSP Research Day
      • Annual Michigan Alliance for Reproductive Technologies and Sciences meeting.
      • Courses in Scientific Communication for Reproductive and Developmental Biology, Grant Writing for Biomedical Research, and Advanced Topics in Reproductive Biology.
      • Community Outreach Activities

Required Degree
Doctorate -any field of Biology

Minimum Requirements
  • Eligibility for the training program requires that candidates are a permanent resident or citizen of the United States.
  • Ph.D. in any field of biology including Physiology, Molecular Biology and Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Reproductive Biology
  • Excellent communication and scientific writing skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently but also as a team player
  • A strong work ethic and dedication to high quality research and fulfillment of training plan

Desired Qualifications
Prior experience/expertise in Reproductive Biology
