Position Description:

Wytheville Community College (WCC) is a member of the Virginia Community College System and is located in historic Wytheville, Virginia. Wytheville is located at the intersection of Interstate 77 and 81. WCC is accredited by the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges and serves Wythe County, Grayson County, Bland County, Carroll County, City of Galax, and the eastern portion of Smyth County. The college offers comprehensive instruction to students in occupational-technical areas, college transfer programs, continuing education, developmental education, general education, and specialized training in regional and community service areas.

 

WCC is seeking a candidate for a full-time, nine-month, teaching faculty position for Police Science beginning August 16, 2018. Teaching responsibilities include day and evening classes. This position reports directly to the Dean of Health and Occupational Programs.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

The faculty member's role encompasses the general areas of learning facilitation, personal and professional development, and institutional and community service. Primary responsibilities for this position are to:

  1. Teach day and evening classes in Police Science at campus locations;
  2. Provide leadership for the Police Science Program;
  3. Maintain and update the Police Science curriculum;
  4. Maintain college relationships with local and state law enforcement agencies;
  5. Be involved in the recruitment and retention of students for the Police Science Program;
  6. Develop and implement new courses as required;
  7. Integrate computers and other technology in courses and the curriculum;
  8. Teach courses using distance learning mediums;
  9. Establish and assess student outcomes and participate in Institutional Effectiveness initiatives to include assessment and program reviews;
  10. Maintain at least ten office hours per week with accessibility to students;
  11. Advise students on programs of study;
  12. Serve actively on college committees;
  13. Pursue professional growth and development activities in discipline;
  14. Participate in college, community, and professional activities;
  15. Advance the college mission by involvement in activities that enhance the college and impact student development; and
  16. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Criminal Justice or a related field from a regionally accredited institution; and
  • Must be proficient in oral and written communications in the English language.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College teaching experience;
  • Law enforcement experience; and
  • Willingness to develop and teach courses via distance learning platform.

 

Rank and Salary will be determined by experience and education of the selected candidate.

Reappointment will be based on performance evaluations and institutional needs.
