Job Description
The Director, Research & Sponsored Programs reports to the Associate Vice President of Research and Dean of Graduate Studies. Responsible for university wide sponsored research grant accounting functions, office budget management, preparation of complex financial and statistical reports, and the collection and analysis of comparative data.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
Eight years of experience in budget management and/or sponsored research grant accounting.
Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited institution in Accounting.
Experience in higher education.
Experience with Banner.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of computerized accounting systems.
Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) applications.
Knowledge of or ability to learn Banner accounting software.
Knowledge of university, state, and federal rules and regulations.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Ability to stay current in generally accepted accounting principles and state fiscal rules.
Ability to interpret complex policies, rules, and regulations.
Ability to compile, organize, interpret, and communicate accounting data and results in a concise format.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times.

Job Duties
Essential Job Duties
• Responsible for developing and maintaining partnerships throughout the university and overseeing the budget and accounting management for the Office of Research and Graduate Studies ( ORGS ).
• Coordinates university wide grant accounting functions as it relates to sponsored research. Prepares complex financial and statistical reports and comparative analysis. Participates in audits and coordinates monitoring visits of funding agencies.
• Oversees financial activities of the university sponsored research funds. Monitors all financial aspects of contracts and grants including budgets, revenues, expenses, and cash balances. Monitors federal drawdowns, cash management, and investments.
• Coordinates the prompt and accurate billing, recording, and reporting of sponsored research revenue. Prepares the annual budget release request for the sponsored research trust fund. Responsible for fiscal oversight of enhanced research fund.
• Prepares and executes project financial statements and other administrative reports. Maintains the official fiscal file of record for all sponsored research. Reconciles the state appropriations to sponsored research ledgers.
• Oversees financial compliance in terms of time and effort reporting, cost sharing, and budget transfers.
• Coordinates and provides the technical fiscal assistance and control needed for the smooth, efficient operations of sponsored research activities.
• Communicates federal, state, and other regulations related to management of sponsored research to project directors, supervising administrators, and resource development officers.
• Coordinates and submits facility and administrative cost rate agreement.
• Recommends additions/changes to policy and procedures of research and sponsored programs.
• Develops and conducts in-service trainings and workshops. Participates in project initiation meetings.
• Assists in supervising the Research & Sponsored Programs staff.
• Assists in monitoring departmental budget and developing monthly reconciliation financial report. Processes expenditures and prepares purchase requisitions and invoices. Ensures PCI compliance of receipt of cash, checks and/or credit card payment.
• Assists in the preparation of the annual financial statements as it relates to sponsored research and the annual schedule of expenditures of federal awards as it pertains to research and sponsored programs.
• Maintains Financial Disclosure in accordance with Chapter 112 F.S. Submits data and reports as required by the university, state and federal regulations.
