Assistant Athletic Trainer

Job Description
The Assistant Athletic Trainer assists with the management of all medical activities associated with the daily healthcare of student athletes. This position assures compliance with all health and safety standards.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, or related area.
Two years of full-time professional athletic training experience at the collegiate level or above.
Possess National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification ( NATABOC ) and CPR / AED certification.
Licensed as an athletic trainer in Florida or eligible at the time of employment.
Experience operating a personal computer and proficient in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
Valid driver's license and the ability to travel throughout the country.

Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited institution in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, or related area.
One year of National Collegiate Athletic Association ( NCAA ) Division I collegiate athletic training experience.
Insurance pre-authorization, claim filing, or processing experience.
Athletic training student supervision and clinical education experience.
Experience with Electronic Medical Records ( EMR ) health systems software.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of human anatomy, medical terminology, injury evaluation, and proper treatment protocols.
Knowledge of applicable health and safety regulations.
Knowledge of and ability to adhere and comply with department, university, and NCAA rules and regulations.
Knowledge of or ability to learn electronic medical record ( EMR ) software.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to think critically and make clear, well-reasoned and timely decisions.
Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations when numerous and diverse demands are involved.
Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with colleagues, physicians, coaches, and student athletes.
Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and the community in a team organizational structure.
Ability to administer first aid and CPR / AED .
Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times.
Ability to work evenings, nights and weekends as necessary.

Salary Range
$36,000 - $38,000

Job Duties

Essential Job Duties
•Provides daily health care to FGCU student athletes including injury and illness prevention and assessment, medical referral and follow-up, rehabilitation and reconditioning, and accurate medical documentation.
•Communicates student athlete injury and illness status and progress to the athletic training staff, team physicians, administrators, strength and conditioning staff and coaches.
•Maintains appropriate and accurate medical records of injuries, treatment plans, and progress using electronic medical record software. Assures confidentiality of medical records.
•Processes, submits, and follows-up on athletic insurance claims. Communicates with secondary insurance carriers and providers to ensure prompt and proper payment.
•Serves as site coordinator for institutional and NCAA drug testing and contact for supplement identification.
•Interprets and ensures implementation of established policies and procedures for emergency service, facility usage, and medical coverage events.
•Maintains appropriate regulatory requirements related to HIPAA , blood borne pathogens, and immunizations.
•Assists with the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and team assignment of Resident Athletic Trainers and Student Athletic Training Interns.
•Complies with all University, ASUN Conference, or Coastal Collegiate Sports Association ( CCSA ), regulations, as applicable, as well as all NCAA rules and regulations. Remains current with all changes in NCAA , as well as changes to University, ASUN Conference and CCSA rules and regulations, as applicable, regarding intercollegiate athletics. This includes the requirement for self-reporting any possible rule violations and participation in the annual NCAA continuing education programs including passing the NCAA certification test. Further, you are advised that any violation of NCAA rules is prohibited and may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
