Upward Bound Summer Instructor

The Upward Bound Programs at Medaille College are seeking instructors to teach during the 6 week Summer Intensive (July 9,2018 - August 17, 2018) in the following subject areas: Language Arts, Math (Algebra I & II), Science (Biology, Earth Science, Chemistry), Social Studies, ACT/SAT Prep and French (language & culture in French speaking countries), Robotics, Biomedical Science, and Engineering. The Upward Bound Programs at Medaille College provide students with the opportunity to enhance their academic skills necessary to successfully complete high school, matriculate through a post-secondary institution and graduate.

The Summer Course Instructor will:

    \t
  • Develop, plan, prepare and deliver his/her own project-based course curriculum in line with NYS Common Core & Regents Standards (where applicable).

  • Create instructional resources for use in the classroom.

  • \t
  • Meet course performance goals.

  • \t
  • Create lesson plans for students with diverse learning abilities.

  • \t
  • Integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans.

  • \t
  • Create a positive educational climate for students to learn in.

  • \t
  • Grade projects and perform other administrative duties as needed.

  • \t
  • Create projects designed to enhance lectures.

  • \t
  • Utilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served.

  • \t
  • Work with program leadership to ensure initiatives are being met.

  • \t
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.

  • \t
  • Prepare and distribute required reports.

  • \t
  • Observe and evaluate each student's performance.

  • \t
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom, enforce approved disciplinary procedures.


Attend meetings and functions.

Minimum Qualifications:
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in subject area or closely related field is required. Teaching experience with Underserved population is highly desired. Must have a valid background check prior to employment.

Preferred Qualifications:
A Master's Degree in subject area or closely related field
Experience with Upward Bound Program or U.S. Department of Education TRIO programs.
