Associate Director, Community Engagement

Job Summary:

The Associate Director Community Engagement Program plans and executes the programming and outreach components of the Office for Community Engagement by coordinating the expansion of campus-community partnerships and the creation of service opportunities for students, faculty, and staff.

 

  

Duties and Essential Job Functions:

Establishes and maintains strong partnerships that promote the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources across campus, with local, state, and national agencies, PK-12 schools, and other stakeholders in Fort Worth and beyond. In particular, fosters relationships with urban communities and underrepresented groups.

 

Conducts outreach to engage campus and community members; collaborates with neighborhood and community efforts to build a strong presence for TCU.

 

Supports department and division programs by assisting Student Affairs with implementing community service programs, including but not limited to Fraternity and Sorority Life, Residence Life and Student Activities; managing departmental programs such as Volunteer Fair, Donation Station, and Alternative Break (fall and spring) experiences; and developing new educational and leadership opportunities for students (e.g., certificates, cohort programs).

 

Provides training in community engagement to campus constituencies.

 

Mentors student organizations focusing on service and advises individual students seeking service opportunities by providing guidance to organization officers; supporting students in identifying volunteer opportunities; providing educational and reflection opportunities to enhance learning through service.

 

Supervises professional and student staff responsible for service program implementation.

 

Contributes to evaluation and assessment of programs.

 

Serves as liaison with the university and community partners by assisting in the development and implementation of networking opportunities for community representatives, faculty, staff and students; serving on various university and community committees and assisting with additional programs as desired and appropriate.

 

Performs other related duties as assigned. 

 
Job Requirements: 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree in Student personnel services, higher education administration, or a related field.

  • 3 years of professional experience in education with at least 2 years in positions focusing on civic engagement and/or service-learning, and 1 year in student programming for college students.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of assessment and evaluation techniques.

  • Knowledge of customer service techniques.

  • Skill in Microsoft Office suite.

  • Skill in strong presentation and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to connect theoretical foundations of student learning and development to service praxis.

  • Ability to advise students, staff and faculty on developing and implementing successful community engagement programs.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to design and implement programs.

  • Ability to work well with a team and independently.

  • Ability to motivate, encourage and empower students.

  • Ability to commit to diversity and an understanding of and an appreciation of cultural, ethnic, and individual differences.

 

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):

  • Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.

  • Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.

  • Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.

  • Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.

  • Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.
