Assistant Coach Men's Basketball

Job Title: Assistant Coach Men's Basketball Job Number: 2018-086 Department: Basketball - Men - 28110 Job Description:

Salary: Commensurate with education and experience

Job Summary: The Assistant Head Coach Men's Basketball is responsible for fostering the academic and athletic development of student athletes in the men's basketball program by providing sound coaching skills/techniques and mentorship toward academic success. Promoting the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program to include adhering to all departmental policies and procedures as well as the rules and regulations of the University, the Big 12 Conference and the NCAA.

Duties and Essential Job Functions:

  • Assists the head coach by planning, critiquing and implementing strategies designed to achieve success in a competitive sports program.


  • Develops the student athlete on the Division 1 level by using effective coaching techniques to critique and improve the student athlete's skills and performance during sports competition.


  • Promotes the success of the student athlete by identifying and recruiting only those student athletes who are qualified to compete academically and athletically at the Division 1 level.


  • Promotes the academic progress of assigned student athletes by functioning as a strong mentor and liaison with the Athletic Academic Office.


  • Enforces team discipline and policies by providing guidance and counsel to student athletes.


  • Ensures program operations and integrity by assisting with daily operations and management; adhering to and enforcing all policies and procedures required by the TCU Athletics Department, Conference, and NCAA.


  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 3 years coaching or related experience.


Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Master's degree


Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
  • Valid Texas driver's license.
  • Must be insurable under the University Motor Vehicle requirements.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the sport of Men's Basketball.
  • Knowledge of basic counseling techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written.


Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):
  • Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
  • Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
  • Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
  • Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
  • Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.


Work Environment:
  • Work is indoors and outdoors and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
  • There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
  • The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
