Associate Director, Disabilities Services

Job Title: Associate Director, Disabilities Services Job Number: 2018-007 Department: Center For Academic Services - 36100 Job Description:

Job Summary:

The Associate Director, Disability Services is responsible for managing daily operation of the disabilities office for the Center; directing activities related to student disabilities services, 504 and ADA accommodations and assists the Director in assuring compliance; senior office administrator in the Center for Academic Services - Student Disabilities Services.

Duties and Essential Job Functions:

Works with the director to manage daily operation of the Center by designing, implementing and updating administrative procedures for disability services and accommodations, staying informed on University policies and procedures as they relate to disabilities services.

Assists the Director in assuring compliance with section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Provides expertise and training to office staff and others in the campus community on adaptive equipment and software.

Accomplishes staff results by communicating job expectations; planning and monitoring job results; coaching and mentoring employees; developing, coordinating and enforcing systems, policies, procedures and productivity standards.

Develops new processes and plans to increase service to students and improve office efficiencies by implementing technology and best business practices, monitoring and enhancing office communications, staffing, and setting tone as a service organization.

Represents the university in a variety of university and professional organizations and committees by attending meetings and actively participating in professional activities

Provides program information to the university community and external agencies by producing periodic and ad hoc reports; maintaining records.

Supervises the day-to-day operations of the disabilities office.

Assists the Director in planning budgets for the disabilities operating and restricted budgets.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Required Education and Experience:
  • Master's degree in education, psychology, vocational rehabilitation, social work, disabilities studies or related field of study.
  • 3 plus years' experience in disability related programming, including 3 years in higher education.


Preferred Education and Experience:
  • 2 plus years' experience in managing and supervising staff.
  • Experience in program planning and budget management.
  • Experience working within federal and state disability regulations.
  • Experience in the use of adaptive technology and equipment in a university setting.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of project management and strategic planning techniques.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the issues of equal access related to the Americans with Disabilities Act and section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
  • Knowledge of adaptive software, equipment and technology for individuals with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of department specific software.
  • Knowledge of customer service techniques.
  • Skill in Microsoft Office.
  • Skill in research techniques, statistical analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to train and lead staff.


Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):
  • Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
  • Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
  • Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
  • Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
  • Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.


Work Environment:
  • Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
  • There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
  • The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
