Food Service Worker Lead


Working Title Prep Chef

Job Summary

Eastern Washington University is currently seeking a team-orientated, skilled individual as a Prep Chef. This is a 10-month per year cyclic position with a strong possibility of picking up shifts during cyclic time off. The Prep Chef works under direction to produce meals, prep food, monitor service lines and maintain kitchen sanitation. This position is capable of directing the work of others and is designed to work alone, as needed, or as a member of a kitchen team.

Conditions of Employment

This position requires a valid food handler's permit and a driver's license.
This position requires the ability to work evenings and weekends. This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 18.
Successful applicants will be required to pass a background check.


This is an agency shop position.




Physical Demands

The successful candidate must be able to stand for the duration of their shift and occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Required Qualifications:

  • Food Handler's Permit

  • One year experience in high volume or institutional food preparation and serving

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Experience delivering excellent customer service

  • Valid Driver's License

  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity.




Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree or Certificate in Culinary Arts

  • 12 months of college or university cooking experience

  • 12 months of high volume food production experience serving over 400 meals per day
    ACF certified
