Specialist I/II/III, Vet Tech (Radiation Oncology)

**This position is open until filled**

The primary purpose of this position will be to support the needs of the radiation oncology service in the provision of the anesthesia/sedation procedures for cases undergoing radiation therapy. Secondary job tasks will be to support research needs in the clinical services section and assistance with daytime anesthesia caseload. Essential functions include, but are not limited to: administering anesthesia/sedation to small animal patients undergoing radiation therapy under supervision of radiation oncology faculty DVM; providing general nursing care to patients undergoing radiation therapy; providing client education and conducting history/physical examination on small animal patients undergoing radiation therapy; supporting clinical trials in oncology, diagnostic imaging, and anesthesia by coordinating case management and data collection for clinicians on the services. Services provided may include but are not limited to data entry, specimen collection, record keeping, and clerical assistance with submission of institutional animal care and use committee protocols, as well as study monitoring for compliance with protocols and data collection. Provides support for the anesthesia service for daytime/weekday cases if time is available.

Minimum Qualifications
Entry into applicant pool requires an Associate's degree from an accredited institution in Veterinary Technology or a related field that qualifies an individual to obtain national certification; three (3) years of experience in the performance of advanced/specialized veterinary technician duties or in veterinary technology; and an active license with the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medicine as a Veterinary Technician or to have passed the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE) and have met all requirements to become certified as a Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS). The salary range for Level I is $31,300 - $52,100.

Level II requires an Associate's degree from an accredited institution in Veterinary Technology or a related field that qualifies an individual to obtain national certification; four (4) years of experience in the performance of advanced/specialized veterinary technician duties or in veterinary technology; and certification as a Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS). The salary range for Level II is $35,000 - $58,400.

Level III requires an Associate's degree from an accredited institution in Veterinary Technology or a related field that qualifies an individual to obtain national certification; six (6) years of experience in the performance of advanced/specialized veterinary technician duties or in veterinary technology; and certification as a Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS). The salary range for Level III is $39,300 - $65,500.

Must have detailed knowledge of established veterinary processes, methods, and techniques, as well as the ability to obtain needed information to select and adapt methods and procedures.

Desired Qualifications
Desired qualifications include the ability to handle animals (dogs and cats, pocket pets); administration of general anesthesia in small animals; intubation; ability to read and accurately interpret vital signs from an anesthetic monitor (ecg, capnography, pulse ox); catheter placement and blood collection in small animals; familiarity or experience with institutional animal care and use committee submissions and protocols; and the ability to use Anesthetic Machine, Anesthetic Monitor (pulse ox, ecg, capnograph, NIBP/doppler), and computers (Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word).
