The Department of Clinical Sciences at the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants to fill a 12-month appointment. Depending upon experience, qualifications and interest, the successful candidate may be appointed to either a tenure-track (Assistant/Associate/Full Professor) or non-tenure track (Clinical Assistant/Associate/Full Professor) position in Oncology.

The successful applicant will be joining a multi-disciplinary clinical team that provides diagnostic and therapeutic oncology for approximately 3,100 medical, surgical, and radiation patients each year. The oncology service is currently composed of two board-certified medical oncologists, two board-certified radiation oncologists, one surgical oncologist, 4 medical oncology residents, one surgical oncology fellow, one medical oncology intern and dedicated technical support. As academicians, the team shares responsibility for clinical instruction of professional students, residents and interns; and participates in active interdependent clinical and translational research programs. The Oncology Service currently has four ongoing clinical trials and is a member of the Clinical Oncology Trials Consortium ( COTC ). Ample opportunity exists to develop independent or collaborative projects. Collaborations with individuals in other departments within the Veterinary College or on main campus, in the local medical community, and at the University of Alabama at Birmingham's Medical School are frequent, and contribute to the success of Auburn's clinical faculty.

The College of Veterinary Medicine is located on 350 acres at the perimeter of the Auburn University campus. The Wilford and Kate Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital, a state-of-the-art facility, was completed in 2014, and provides 208,000 square feet dedicated to meeting the College's mission of practicing the highest standards of veterinary medicine. The oncology service occupies a dedicated space which includes separate facilities for chemotherapy administration, a treatment room, rounds room, doctors' work room, dedicated clinical lab space for microscopy and blood analyzers and a special procedures room with a dedicated service ultrasound machine and ECG . Also included in the oncology service is a separate area designed for future use in bone marrow transplants and a surgical oncology suite for biopsies and minor procedures. The oncology wing is just steps away from the linear accelerator vault capable of treating large animal patients. The College of Veterinary Medicine has purchased a Varian Edge Radiosurgery System-the most advanced linear accelerator available. The new radiation therapy/radiosurgery system is expected to be operational by Fall 2018 and will be capable of 3D image guidance and ablative treatments for tumors located anywhere on the body. A new Siemens Verio Open Bore 3 Tesla MRI has also been purchased and is expected to be operational by Fall 2018.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualified applicants must hold a DVM or equivalent degree, have completed oncology residency training recognized by the ACVIM and be a Diplomate of the ACVIM (Oncology) or qualified to sit for the certifying examination in this specialty. Starting salary will be commensurate with experience and credentials. The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
