Graduate Student Coordinator

Position Summary:
Graduate Student Coordinator processes all graduate student applications (in collaboration with the faculty) and responds to inquiries about the graduate program. Assists with recruitment efforts for graduate programs, tracks current graduate student records and assists students with the management of their student record, including plans of study. Maintains listserv and other sources of communication between the department and graduate students and collaborates with Graduate School on application, student record processing, and information in the Graduate School's immigration offices as needed. Prepares graduate assistantship agreements, tracks funding for GTAs/GRAs, and is the primary enterer for graduate assistantships. Serves as backup for I-9 payroll processing, maintains accurate records of current and inactive students and alumni in departmental databases, regularly and effectively communicates with faculty, staff and students in all aspects of the graduate program, and assists other office staff with overflow work.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent related training and/or experience.
- Experience providing program and/or administrative support in an academic or professional office environment.
- Proficiency working with computer applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Experience working with relational databases such as Access.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Ability to interact comfortably with all individuals in a diverse multicultural environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a higher education environment.
- Experience working with graduate students, application processes and database management.
- Experience with VT Banner student and payroll systems.
- Experience working with international students and nonimmigrant visa requirements.
