Clinical Laboratory Scientist

Position Summary:
Performs routine and complex testing within the Clinical Pathology laboratory of Virginia Tech Animal Laboratory Services (ViTALS) at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital ( VTH ). In Laboratory Central Receiving ( LCR ), performs procedures to prepare, expedite and facilitate laboratory analysis of specimens submitted to ViTALS, routing those specimens to the correct in-house or external laboratory and distributing generated reports.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science or related field, plus MLS ( ASCP ) or eligible. Comprehensive knowledge of clinical laboratory procedures, must work cooperatively with others and demonstrate thorough understanding of all procedures and processes required to effectively perform all work assignments. Must be able to learn new procedures and be adaptable. Position is considered essential and must report to work during inclement weather and authorized closings.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a medical or veterinary diagnostic laboratory setting.
