The Department of Biology at Elmhurst College invites applications for a full-time lecturer in the area of general biology beginning August 2018. Our curriculum follows the recommendations of "Vision and Change in Undergraduate Education: A Call to Action" (www.visionandchange.org). Applicants should articulate how their teaching philosophy aligns with those recommendations. Candidates should have a commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment for a diverse student body.

Essential Functions
The teaching load is eight course credits per year with lectures counting as 1.0 course credits and labs counting as 0.5 course credits each. Primary teaching responsibilities will include teaching lectures and laboratories in majors' level general biology courses as well as non-majors' biology.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
As assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
. Evidence of outstanding teaching or teaching potential is essential.
. A masters in biology may be considered with appropriate teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications
. A PhD in a biological discipline is preferred.

. Expertise in plant biology, with the potential to teach an upper-level plant biology course for majors is preferred, but other areas are welcome, too.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move object.
