Postdoc Research Associate, Chemical Engineering

The Chemical Engineering Department of Bucknell University seeks a creative and highly motivated individual for a postdoctoral research associate position to conduct research on the design, preparation, and characterization of new soft, polymeric composites for use in shape memory and self-healing applications. Our laboratory focuses on smart polymeric materials, with an emphasis on innovative design concepts at the nanometer-scale and utilization of novel electrospinning methods for the preparation of composite reinforcement. Mechanical and microstructural characterization methods are utilized to establish and then exploit processing-structure-property relationships in the new materials. The postdoctoral researcher will conduct research in collaboration with a small business on a project that is sponsored by a DoD agency. Our goal is to develop new materials of use in surgical training mannequins.

Applicants should hold a PhD materials science and engineering, chemical engineering, or related field. Experience in the synthesis or processing of soft polymeric materials (elastomers and gels) and physical and microstructural characterization of materials is required. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required. The successful applicant will work in a multidisciplinary polymer engineering laboratory comprised of postdoctoral fellows and undergraduate students.

This is a full-time, benefits eligible position with an expected term of one year.

Please note that U.S. citizenship is required under the restrictions of a government grant that funds this position.
