Assistant Professor - Health Services Admin



The College of Health Science and Public Health Administration at Eastern Washington University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in the Department of Public Health and Health Services Administration to begin mid-September 2018.


Easternis currently seeking to fill a tenure track faculty position in Health Services Administration at either Assistant or Associate Professor level, depending upon candidate qualifications.


The college seeks faculty who are committed to excellence in instruction and who appreciate a student-centered, with an emphasis on service and community -based learning in the education process. The department is housed in the College of Health Science and Public Health based on Eastern's Spokane campus. The college and department prepare students to help meet the growing market demand in the critical fields of public health, health care and education. The College is home to several nationally accredited undergraduate and graduate programs with a focus on inter-professional education (IPE) and collaboration.


Teaching responsibilities will be mainly with the Health Services Administration Services program which is an undergraduate program with an option in Long Term Care. Faculty positions include an expectation for teaching, research, and service, to meet the needs of the department at the undergraduate level. Additionally, all faculty are expected to actively participate in assessment of student learning and to engage in effective teaching.


The candidate selected for this position will be expected to engage in online learning, pursuit of grants, program assessment, and will be involved in continuation of accreditation with both the Association for University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) and National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB).


The College is located on Eastern's Spokane Campus, adjacent to downtown Spokane, a regional commercial and health center and maintains an administrative presence in Cheney, a residential suburb and the location of Eastern Washington University's residential campus. Cheney and Spokane are 17 miles apart. Spokane and vicinity offer a wide range of cultural, recreational, dining, shopping and entertainment alternatives as well as extensive affordable housing options.


Spokane is home to three universities and to health related, medical and other selective programs from the two state doctoral universities Washington State University and University of Washington. All clinical professions are represented and located on the Riverpoint campus for the 3 universities. This allows for collaboration with a variety of clinical and health administration disciplines. Spokane offers a high quality network of public and private K-12 schools, an extensive community college system and two major healthcare/hospital systems.

Conditions of Employment

If the selected candidate is hired in with the rank of Associate Professor, the candidate must go up for tenure in his/her third year.




Eastern Washington University is currently seeking to fill a tenure track faculty position in Health Services Administration, Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in relevant field from an accredited institution; prefer PhD in Health Administration or closely related field;

    • PhD in another field will be considered if candidate offers an MHA from an accredited institution

    • DHA will be considered





  • 3 or more years teaching experience as the instructor of record at the undergraduate level



  • Evidence of scholarly research and ongoing research program in health services administration;



  • To be considered qualified, candidates must meet at least one the following:

    • At least one year of administration experience with 24/7 operations; and/or

    • Fellow in FACHA.





  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency and diversity, including universal accessibility.



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with AUPHA and /or NAB accreditation;

  • Teaching and research ability in more than one health administration area (health finance, quality management, facility management, long term care);

  • Experience with grant activity.
