Venture Out Coordinator

Position Summary:
The Venture Out Coordinator will: assist in the administration and management of all operations and programming aspects of Virginia Tech's comprehensive Outdoor Program - Venture Out; oversee the day-to-day operation of the Hokie Team Building and Venture Aerial Challenge Course, including the development of custom programs for specialized communities and the recruiting, supervising, training, evaluating, and scheduling of staff; Aid in the supervision of program logistics while leading and evaluating selected programs (trips, clinics, workshops, trainings, and challenge course facilitations). The coordinator reports directly to the Assistant Director for Venture Out and works in conjunction with members of the Recreational Sports staff to enhance the quality of life for the university community by educating and encouraging participation in activities that promote healthy lifestyles, social interactions, and leadership skills. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Outdoor Recreation, Recreation Management,
Sports Management or related field; and/or equivalent experience.
- Outdoor Leadership portfolio including documented challenge course facilitation, as well as trip leading experience.
- Valid Wilderness First Responder certification with First Aid and CPR credentials.
- Experience working with Federal, State and Local Governments to obtain recreational permits; experience leading trips in variation of environments.
- Experience supervising student employees at a collegiate level.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative and leadership, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work with a wide and challenging range of students, parents, community members, and coworkers.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience staffing and managing a comprehensive challenge course;
nationally recognized certification(s) such as Association for Challenge Course Technology, American Mountain Guides
Association, American Canoe Association, Leave No Trace, American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education, International Mountain Bike Association, experience working within college outdoor
program(s), Outward Bound, The National Outdoor Leadership School or similar entity.
