Assistant Professor of Practice

Position Summary:
The Department of Building Construction in the Myers-Lawson School of Construction at Virginia Tech is seeking applicants for a Professor of Practice to teach undergraduate courses and support online initiatives. The opening is for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Practice, which is a restricted, non-tenure track, calendar year appointment. Applications are invited from individuals dedicated to undergraduate teaching with experience in the industry, experience in current industry technology, software and fundamentals of construction management. Knowledge of online software and instruction and evidence of ability to contribute to the academic needs of the program, including curriculum development, is preferred. The Department of Building Construction is within the College of Architecture and Urban Studies at Virginia Tech. The department of Building Construction has functioned as an integral partner in the Myers-Lawson School of Construction since 2006.
Responsibilities will include teaching of up to 12 credit hours per semester of coursework related to construction management courses across the Building Construction curriculum. Specifically, the Professor of Practice is needed to immediately teach courses BC 2014 and BC 2024 Principles of Construction I and II and BC 2064 Integrated Lab. The Professor of Practice position will also support the current teaching of BC 4964/5964G Fundamentals of Construction Management. Finally, the successful candidate will work with our administrative team to establish on-line modules on construction management which can be used across all of the curriculum.

Required Qualifications:
• Undergraduate or Master's degree with one of the degrees in construction management or a related discipline.
• Min of 5 years of industry experience in construction or related discipline.
• Expertise in construction management fundamentals (such as estimating, scheduling and productivity).

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates with a terminal degree, certification in instructional design, and/or construction-related experience or licensure. Experience teaching undergraduate-level courses and current industry software. Knowledge of online software and instruction and evidence of ability to contribute to the academic needs of the program, including curriculum development, is also preferred.
