Practice Manager-Des Moines University Clinic

Summary/Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Des Moines University seeks a Practice Manager to coordinate and supervise Family Medicine, Radiology and Ophthalmology activities within the Des Moines University Clinic.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Work with the providers and support staff in each clinical department to coordinate their activities.
  • Ensure clinic staffing needs are met.
  • Facilitate and initiate departmental quality improvement activities.
  • Supervise employees in the Family Medicine, Radiology and Ophthalmology departments.
  • Coordinate scheduling of student rotations and job shadowing.
  • Coordinate and ensure the accuracy of patient scheduling, registration, coding and billing.
  • Evaluate clinic productivity.
  • Review and update policies in Family Medicine, Radiology and Ophthalmology.
  • Maintain inventory of medical supplies, medications, medical equipment, office equipment, and office supplies. Monitor function of equipment and facilitate repairs.
  • Assist in the development of the budget, and monitor compliance.
  • Arrange and facilitate regular meetings of departmental support staff and practice providers.
  • Participate in and successfully complete all University required training including, but not limited to discrimination/harassment and code of conduct.
  • Performs other job-related duties and special projects as assigned


Supervisory Responsibilities:

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has oversight of Family Medicine, Radiology and Ophthalmology Clinics. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the University's policies and with applicable laws. Responsibilities include but are not limited to interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications/Education and/or Experience:

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree preferred.
  • R.N. licensure required.
  • A minimum of three (3) years clinical office or healthcare management experience required.
  • Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and/or Ophthalmology experience preferred.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Iowa


ESSENTIAL SKILLS
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively across disciplines with administrators, faculty, co-workers, and students.
  • Excellent communication and active listening skills, including the ability to convey and receive verbal and written information effectively and efficiently and consider the input of various recipients and presenters.
  • Good PC knowledge and skills;
  • Familiarity with EMR systems and the ability to master the current EMR environment and willingness to develop Super User skills to support the Family Medicine Clinic.
  • Logical and reasonable communication style used to consider the strengths and weaknesses of available options and potential solutions.
  • Ability to confront complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Ability to handle confidential/sensitive matters in a mature and professional manner.
  • Self-directed work ethic with ability to set priorities, manage time, and organize workflow.
  • Medical knowledge of patient care, documentation, and diagnostic testing.
  • Ability to work effectively and build relationships with numerous and varied vendors and act as liaison between vendors and clinical staff.
