Position Summary:
The Virginia Tech Transportation Institute ( VTTI ) conducts research to save lives, time, and money and protect the environment. As one of seven premier research institutes created by Virginia Tech to answer national challenges, VTTI is continually advancing transportation through innovation and has impacted public policy on national and international levels
VTTI is hiring for a Sr. Research Specialist this role provides assistance conducting human factors transportation research. Duties include: (i) following research protocols directed at data collection, data download, data reduction, and data analysis using specialized human factors techniques and methods, (ii) coordinating and training junior experimental staff, (iii) recruiting, screening, and working with human subjects, (iv) preparing the Smart Road or other setting(s) for experiments, and (v) performing other duties in support of conducting research projects. (vi) traveling to off-site locations to assist with data collection and trouble-shoot data collection systems
Motivated to work in a fast-paced research environment with little supervision. Good communication, organization, and documentation skills.

Required Qualifications:
-Demonstrated experience and or knowledge in lab and research policies, procedures and protocols.
-Demonstrated experience running human subject experiments and protocols.
-Demonstrated proficiency with specialized research software (i.e. Excel, video editing).
-Demonstrated experience drafting research protocols directed at data collection, data download, data reduction, and data analysis using specialized human factors techniques and methods

Preferred Qualifications:
-Bachelor's degree in psychology, human factors, or related field OR equivalent combination of education & training required.
