Position Summary:
The Virginia Tech Transportation Institute ( VTTI ) conducts research to save lives, time, and money and protect the environment. As one of seven premier research institutes created by Virginia Tech to answer national challenges, VTTI is continually advancing transportation through innovation and has impacted public policy on national and international levels
VTTI is hiring for a Smart Road Maintenance Crew Member. This role performs a combination of skilled equipment operation, preventive maintenance and manual labor. Equipment operation includes but is not limited to backhoes, dump trucks, tractors and similar equipment. Perform emergency roadway operations as an essential employee; must be willing to work outside of normal work hours during emergency conditions. Knowledge of Safety policies, procedures, and programs. Perform heavy manual labor. Ability to read and to follow oral and written instructions.

Required Qualifications:
-Demonstrated knowledge of maintenance equipment, materials, methods, and procedures.
-Demonstrated experience in equipment operation and performing preventive maintenance on equipment.
-Demonstrated experience in the operation, usage and maintenance of hand-held and power tools and light, medium, and heavy duty equipment used for maintenance and repair.

Preferred Qualifications:
A valid Commercial Driver's License ( CDL ) with appropriate endorsements or acquisition of CDL certification is preferred.
