QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s degree, or equivalent, in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or other related discipline;
  • Minimum of five (5) years senior-level experience as a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in a college, university o/r private setting with experience in financial affairs, technology, budgeting, and physical plant operations;
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, confidence and executive presence with the ability to motivate and effectively supervise staff;
  • Strong commitment to the college mission and goals;
  • Dedication to student, faculty and staff success;
  • Creativity, initiative, judgment, and exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to administer several large and diverse departments;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Excellent analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills;
  • Preference shall be given to the following:
    • Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:         

  • Assisting the President;
  • Providing leadership for the Financial Services Division and other functions as outlined below;
  • Responsible for all aspects of planning, management, quality improvement, supervision, budget oversight, evaluation, training, and staff development for these administrative areas. 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reports directly to the President and serves as a member of the President’s Cabinet;
  • In the absence of the President, serves as the administrator responsible for financial decisions regarding the institution;
  • Develops and consolidates the proposed College budget for the President and insures that the College affairs are administered within the approved budget;
  • Furnishes the President and the Board of Trustees with regular balance sheets, income and expense statements, warrant lists, budgetary position reports, and other special reports as required or requested;
  • Establishes, integrates, and coordinates sound and practical business control;
  • Recommends policies and procedures for administrative activities of the College;
  • Responsible for the Physical Plant and other property of the College and see that the physical plant services are efficiently and economically conducted;
  • Directs the Dean of Facilities and Sustainability in the formulation of the College’s Capital Outlay Plan and all other functions in acquiring funds for construction, renovation and repair of College structures, including facility surveys, educational specifications, etc.;
  • Negotiates architectural, engineering, construction, auxiliary services (to include Food Service/Metz, The River Shop Bookstore, WQCS Radio Station, and many more), and other contracts on behalf of the College as directed by the President;
  • Supervises the College purchasing functions to ensure conformity with applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and to obtain optimal value for the College;
  • Responsible through the Dean of Finance to provide efficient and effective Business Office operations for the College;
  • Responsible through the Dean of Facilities and Sustainability for the efficient and effective operations of administrative services for the College as well as College insurance requirements and all safety requirements;
  • Responsible through the Dean of Human Resources for activities in personnel employment and evaluation, equal opportunity and affirmative action, employee benefits, training, and employee relations;
  • Serves as Chief Financial Officer and strategic business partner to the President’s Cabinet;
  • Facilitates recommendations to the President on personnel matters under his supervision such as appointments, terminations, etc.;
  • Assures that all areas under supervision are fully accountable and in complete compliance with all guiding and controlling rules, regulations statutes, and laws;
  • Act in the capacity of legal liaison regarding all institutional legal issues;
  • Establishes and maintains beneficial relations with various agencies, private enterprises, governmental bodies, public officers and others whose support is important to achievement of the College mission;
  • Participates in conferences of associations and institutions of higher education and maintains other professional contacts to advance the role, mission, and reputation of the College;
  • Executes other tasks and assignments as the President may direct.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds.  It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary.
