Oral Surgery Nurse - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, School of Dental Medicine

The Purpose of the OMFS department is to provide a broad academic background and extensive clinical experience in diagnosing and managing oral surgical problems for the pre and post-doctoral programs. The department provides total administrative and clinical support for all faculty, residents and students at the Tufts School of Dental Medicine.

The Registered Nurse is responsible for the training of clinical policies and procedures for all faculty, residents, students and dental assistants of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Keeping informed of all current medication update/changes, and inform faculty, residents and students. In addition, the RN is responsible for the education and monitoring of undergraduate student oral surgery clinical rotations. The RN will monitor all controlled substances utilized in the School of Dental Medicine. He/she will provide operating room assistance with patients who receive general anesthesia, undergo surgical procedures; provide post-operative care and instructions to patient/family recovering from surgical procedures. Oversee weekly/perform daily lock inspections of all emergency carts and defibrillators , performing daily inspections of all instrumentation, materials and special equipment required within the surgical operating rooms. Maintain clinic statistics and logs of medications dispensed. Dispenses medications required for surgical procedures. Check medications/supplies weekly for expired medications or supplies.


Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:
  • 3-5 Years medical/surgical.
  • Bachelor s Degree.
  • MA RN License.
  • Knowledge of Word and Excel/Axium, Dentrix or patient care software.
  • Knowledge and understanding of infectious diseases, cross-contamination and sterility.
  • Requires experience with conscious sedation and background in dealing with medical emergencies.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Anesthesia and or Operating Room experience helpful.
  • Knowledge of Axium and or Dentrix software helpful.

Special Work Schedule Requirements:
Overtime may be required based on the need of the department. Need to rotate taking night call based on clinic needs and available staff. Must be flexible with assigned schedule to accommodate special circumstances.
