Job Summary

Eastern Washington University is currently seeking a motivated, team-orientated individual to join the Dining Services team as a Warehouse Operator 1 - Float Schedule.


This is a 10 month per year cyclic position with a strong possibility of picking up shifts during cyclic time off. Under general supervision, in a Dining Services operation, this position will load, unload, unpack, and move materials and equipment including perishable food items; inspect incoming items to verify condition and quantities. Stock and rotate materials in storage locations including dry storage locations, refrigerators and freezers. Verify shipping and receiving manifests. Perform physical inventories. Operate lift trucks, hand trucks, dollies, and other loading and moving equipment in warehouse activities; drive trucks up to and including two and one half ton trucks. Operate an automated order processing system. Fill and file purchase orders, requisitions, transfers, and orders. Perform duties involved in maintenance, arrangement and cleanliness of a warehouse or worksite and its equipment.

Conditions of Employment

This position requires a valid food handler's permit and a valid driver's license.
The successful candidate must be able to stand for an extended period of time.
The successful candidate must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds on a frequent basis, and occasionally lift and carry up to 100 pounds. This position requires a pre-placement physical. This position, during the course of university employment, will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 18. Successful application will be required to pass a background check.
This is an agency shop position.




Physical Demands

This position performs manual labor and requires heavy lifting. Must be able to lift 50-100 pounds. Must be able to routinely carry 50+ pounds. This position requires continuous use of arms and legs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid driver's license

  • Current food handler's permit, or ability to acquire one



  • High school diploma or GED

  • Certificate and physical ability to do required work.

  • 6 months of clerical or technical experience in retail clerking, warehousing, stock keeping, shipping, or receiving and operation of material handling equipment.
    or

  • Equivalent education/experience



  • ServSafe certified or the ability to become certified

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Email, and Calendar

  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity.=




Preferred Qualifications:

  • Work experience with ordering, receiving, and storing food products

  • Experience using an electronic inventory management system

  • Experience performing inventories in large-scale warehouses
