Assistant Director - Social Change & Leadership

POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Director of Student Activities & Leadership Development (SALD), the Assistant Director of Student Activities & Leadership Development will provide strategic direction over various student focused equity and inclusion leadership programs. The successful candidate will draw upon the University of Cincinnati's experience and the mission of Student Activities & Leadership Development to create and sustain innovative programs that foster holistic and inclusive leadership development.

Responsibilities:

Supervision
  • Supervise two professional staff
  • Assist in the general student supervision for the department (student workers, E&I student workers, etc).

Programming and Facilitation
  • Lead a wide variety of workshops related to diversity, equity, and inclusive leadership.
  • Assist in the development of equity and inclusion training for student groups and their respective advisors.
  • Implement, assess, and modify the Diversity Module created by the PEN group.
  • Oversee SALD's role in the equity and inclusion conference,
  • Serve as Co-Lead for the Emerging Ethnic Leaders Cohort

Partnership and Collaboration
  • Develop partnerships with local partners to create inclusive leadership development programs/opportunities for students and community members.
  • Partner with faculty and staff to ensure SALD's place as an integral part of the equity and inclusion mission of the institution.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and influence the development of campus policy and programming pertaining to diversity, equity and inclusion. As appropriate, contribute to the delivery of that programming, including cultural competency programs.
  • Continue collaborations with established campus partners such as: FYE's Learning Communities, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Student Government, and other identity centers

Other Responsibilities
  • Monitor campus climate and national trends relevant to diversity and provide responsive leadership.
  • Prepare reports and narrative materials relevant to the campus' diversity, equity and inclusion activities.
  • Manage operational expenses within an established budget.
  • Assist in and assess efforts to achieve annual SALD office-wide goals.
  • Responsible for SALD's active involvement in Division's Equity & Inclusion Council, UC's Bias Incidents Response Team, and ROOTEd Training.
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor degree with five (5) years of experience; -OR- Associate degree with seven (7) years of experience; -OR- nine (9) years ofexperience. Degree must be in a related field. Experience must be related. Experience also requires at least three (3) years supervision.

Preferred experience and qualifications:
  • Thorough knowledge of student development and D&l theories
  • Extensive practice facilitating inter-group dialogue and/or multi-partial facilitation.
  • Knowledge in best practices related to inclusive leadership programs
  • Experience in creating/leading collegiate student experiential learning programs
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively one-on-one, in small groups, and in public speaking contexts
  • Practice in assessing programs
  • Master's degree in college student personnel, multi-cultural affairs, social justice education, counseling or related field.
