The Department of Biomedical Engineering invites applications from qualified candidates to fill two postdoctoral research positions in the Biomedical Acoustics Laboratory. The positions are full-time for a period of one year, but may be extended pending continued research funding.

The Department of Biomedical Engineering currently has 32 associated faculty members and an enrollment of about 325 undergraduate and 40 graduate students. The Department offers an ABET-accredited undergraduate program in Biomedical Engineering. The department also has graduate programs that confer Master of Science, Master of Engineering, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. The Department has research focus areas in Cardiovascular Engineering, Medical Device Design, Medical Imaging, and Regenerative Medicine/Tissue Engineering.

Description: Two postdoctoral positions in the Biomedical Acoustics Laboratory are available for research on therapeutic applications of ultrasound, including two projects: (1) ultrasound echo decorrelation imaging for monitoring of thermal ablation in clinical cancer therapy, and (2) high-frequency elastographic imaging of the human skin. The postdoctoral fellows will be joining a collaborative team including the Principal Investigator, clinicians in surgery, radiology, and pathology, a biostatistician, industry partners, Biomedical Engineering undergraduate and graduate students, and colleagues in the University of Cincinnati's Image-guided Ultrasound Therapeutics Laboratories. The postdoctoral fellows will collaborate on design and implementation of novel ultrasound imaging methods, image data analysis, and experimental design, execution, and hypothesis testing. They will collaborate on experiments in laboratory (phantom and ex vivo tissue), preclinical (animal experiments) and clinical (human subjects) settings, and will mentor graduate and undergraduate research assistants.

Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in biomedical engineering, physics, or a related engineering or science discipline.

Additional Information: Preference will be given to applicants with experience in biomedical ultrasound instrumentation, computer programming (MATLAB and C++), biomedical signal and image processing, and physical acoustics including numerical and analytic modeling.
