Instructor, Literacy Education

Position Description:

This nine-month renewable term position is housed in the Literacy Education division, in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, in the College of Education at the University of Northern Iowa. This position's responsibilities will be 50% teaching in the Literacy Endorsement area and 50% supporting the UNI Literacy Clinic. The State Reading Endorsement coursework is offered face-to-face as well as online, and courses will be offered in both formats. Part of the regular responsibilities include serving as the clinic liaison, supervising students, and preparing support materials. In addition, this position includes administrative duties such as arranging school sites, organizing the pairing of university students with children at school sites, and data organization.

Education Requirements:

Earned doctorate (EdD or PhD) or Educational Specialist (EdS) in Literacy education or related field required.

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have demonstrated expertise in literacy assessment and instruction; knowledge and/or experience in working with diverse K-12 populations to support literacy achievement; knowledge of data management; high level of attention to details; and three years of K-12 teaching experience.

Desirable Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge of the role of the reading specialist; interest in teacher education and professional development of in-service teachers; demonstrated expertise at multiple grade levels; and experience with online teaching.
