Job Description
Florida Gulf Coast University is a public, comprehensive university enrolling approximately 15,000 students. In just twenty years of offering classes, FGCU has made an indelible impact on Southwest Florida and the world. It is a catalyst for the area's economy and a cultural hub for the community. FGCU students enjoy one of the highest graduate employment rates among the state's universities. Our campus and region serve as a living laboratory from which life-improving discoveries emanate.
Southwest Florida is one of the fastest growing regions in the United States and has a population of 1.3 million people, with Fort Myers, Naples, and Cape Coral serving as the region's major cities. Residents enjoy a tropical climate that supports year-round outdoor activities, such as hiking, kayaking, and fishing in the Gulf of Mexico.
In Spring 2018, FGCU's successful Honors Program transitioned to an Honors College. The Honors College currently enrolls approximately 1,000 high-achieving students. The Honors College's curriculum is based on the Elements of Honors: Scholarly Advancement, Community Engagement, Cultural Enrichment, and Leadership Development. Special Instructions to Applicants
As part of the transition to an Honors College, we are hiring multiple Postdoctoral Teaching Fellows. These positions will begin by Fall 2018 with the option of an earlier start date if logistically feasible. The disciplinary focus of these positions are open, but successful applicants will have a Ph.D. in a field aligned with the Honors College's curricular needs. Fellows will report to the Director of the Honors College, but they will also work closely with an academic department aligned with their academic discipline. Fellows will teach Honors and non-Honors courses in their academic discipline with an assigned teaching load of six hours per semester. This is an opportunity for recent Ph.D. recipients to develop a diversified and more expansive teaching record. The positions are funded for a minimum of one academic year (concluding at the end of Spring 2020), with the possibility of extending employment for one additional academic year, depending on availability of funding.
