Job Summary
Under the direction of the Pre-College Program Director and a Head Resident, RA staff members will assist students in adjusting to college life academically and socially, help plan and conduct co-curricular activities and, by maintaining close and regular contact with students, ensure smooth operation of the program. The position requires living in the residence hall with the pre-college students and includes working nights and weekends.
RA staff members must have strong communication skills and leadership qualities. They must be able to consistently display good judgment; have strong skills in dealing with others in a group dynamic, and be positive and supportive of the intellectual and artistic development of young adults. RA staff members are required to:
• Live in the Pre-College residence hall throughout the program (June 24-Aug. 5)
• Actively participate in all day/evening residential staff orientation sessions the week of June 25-29
• Be available to the Pre-College Program on nights and weekends throughout the five-week program
• Be fully available during check-in/orientation weekend (June 30-July 1) and departure weekend (Aug. 4-5)
• Promote positive attitudes with enthusiasm while maintaining a professional demeanor
• Serve as mentors and resources about program policies, procedures, and structure
• Be available and accessible to Pre-College residential students during their on duty hours
• Abide by and enforce summer program rules and curfews, and report unsafe and inappropriate behavior
• Plan and facilitate activities designed to promote community, wellness and preparation for college
• Promote and encourage students to attend program activities and college events
• Chaperone social events on campus and trips to popular off-campus destinations (day, evening and weekends)
• Attend staff meetings and one-on-one meetings with the Head Resident on a weekly basis
• Oversee administrative paperwork, including room inspections and program evaluation forms
• Perform other duties as assigned
RA staff members report directly to the Pre-College Program Director and the Head Resident.

Minimum Qualifications
Must be a current Skidmore student. We seek candidates with a demonstrated interest in working with high school age students. Successful candidates should have experience working with high school students in a residential environment or equivalent skills, such as previous RA experience, some background working with teenagers and/or underserved youth, mediation training, and/or campus leadership experience. RAs may have only one outside commitment of no more than 15 hours per week. Evening and weekend availability is required.
