Faculty Position in Computer & Information Sciences

(Continuing Assistant Professor)

The Department of Computer & Information Sciences at the University of Delaware (CIS at UD) invites applications for teaching faculty positions to begin September 1, 2018. These are full-time, non-tenure track positions with an initial two-year contract, renewable in a program that leads to substantial job security. Continuing-Track (CT) positions at UD have access to sabbaticals and Professor titles for terminal degrees, and non-terminal degree holders also have a promotion path. The University offers an active CT Caucus and professional centers dedicated to effective teaching.

Our department (over 35% women faculty) prides itself on quality teaching: in the last 20 years, no other department has won more University-wide Excellence in Teaching awards. CIS at UD has an active computer science education research group in collaboration with the College of Education and significant outreach to K-12 teachers and students in collaboration with the state Dept of Education. The State of Delaware now promotes a three-course CS track in high schools, and our faculty and students lead service-learning CS projects with public schools and participate in scholarship on CS Education. Join CIS at UD as we experience increasing student quality in our majors, growth in our faculty and student body, and the benefits of a top-100 NSF grant institution.

The candidate's primary responsibility will be teaching (typically three to four courses per semester). The candidate will also participate in curriculum development, student advisement, and service. Applicants should have a record of teaching excellence and a strong commitment to teaching and service. Experience with broadening participation in computing is a plus. A Ph.D in computer science or a related discipline by the start date is expected, though exceptional candidates with a master's degree will be considered.

One of the oldest institutions of higher education in this country, the University of Delaware is a premier co-educational institution of 17,000+ undergraduate students and 3500+ graduate students. With a distinguished faculty and strengths in study abroad, undergraduate research, and active and discovery learning, the University offers a broad range of undergraduate and graduate degrees across seven colleges. The beautiful 100-acre central campus is located in Newark, DE, about halfway between New York City and Washington, DC.

Applications should include in order: a cover letter (addressed to Dr. Terry Harvey, Faculty Search Committee Chair), a vita including a list of references with contact information, and a statement on teaching. The committee will begin reviewing applications on October 1, 2017 and will continue until the position is filled.

The University of Delaware is an equal opportunity employer. Women and members of historically underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply. The University's Notice of Non-Discrimination can be viewed at: www.udel.edu/aboutus/legalnotices.html.
