Faculty Position - Nutritional Immunology

The Department of Animal and Food Sciences (ANFS) at the University of Delaware (UD) is strengthening a campus-wide initiative in One Health by hiring two faculty members in the areas of animal physiology and immunology. One search will be conducted to find two scholars whose work will complement each other and add new dimensions to the One Health initiative at the University. ANFS is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor (70% research, 30% teaching) for a nine-month, academic-year appointment who will teach courses and conduct contemporary research in nutritional immunology as it relates to One Health. The individual will be expected to develop a self-supporting, collaborative, multidisciplinary research program that may include, but is not limited to, areas such as the interplay between the immune system, metabolism and nutrition, feed-based alternatives to antibiotics, or metabolic and autoimmune disorders. Teaching responsibilities will include an undergraduate course in immunology and a senior/graduate course in metabolism/nutrition. This teaching role is critically important to enhance the course offerings in fundamental nutrition/metabolism and immunology by the department and university. The Department consists of 22 full-time faculty members actively engaged in the core research areas of infectious diseases, genomics, immunology, microbiology including food safety, physiology and nutrition. The affiliated Delaware Biotechnology Institute provides outstanding core facilities to support research of faculty and students. The Animal and Food Sciences undergraduate program is in high demand with over 350 students enrolled and we place a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary research and discovery-based learning. A Ph.D. and relevant post-doctoral training in nutrition, immunology, animal science, biochemistry or a related discipline is required. Successful candidates will have demonstrated novel integrative research approaches applicable to agricultural animal systems. In addition, they will have an understanding and appreciation of the One Health initiative as applied to production animal systems. The successful candidate will teach, engage undergraduates in academic and career advising, mentor undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral researchers, and develop productive outreach collaborations.
