The Department of English at the University of Delaware invites applications for a temporary Assistant Professor or temporary Instructor (depending on degree) in TESOL or Composition with ESL expertise-one year contract, renewable up to three years. We are looking for a specialist who will play a central role in teaching ESL/multilingual students in the university's first-year writing course (capped for these sections at 15 students), and who can help us plan for and manage partnerships across campus to address ESL student needs. Successful candidates will hold either an MA in TESOL or a PhD in Composition & Rhetoric, Applied Linguistics, or a related field with a strong background in teaching first-year composition to ESL students. We are looking for candidates who will be prepared not only to teach our first-year composition course but also to train graduate students and post-doctoral fellows to teach L2 writing as well. Depending on qualifications, faculty hired for this position will also have opportunities to lead our efforts to work with departments across campus supporting advanced ESL undergraduates and graduate students. The English Department is a dynamic and collegial collection of scholars and teachers devoted to interdisciplinary research and teaching. We include a diverse set of programs, including Composition & Rhetoric, Literary and Cultural Studies, Creative Writing, Professional Writing, Drama, Film, and Critical Race Studies, and our faculty play leading roles in various interdisciplinary programs, including Environmental Humanities, Disability Studies, Material Culture Studies, and Journalism, among many other programs. We are home to the award-winning Colored Convention Project and are currently developing other innovative digital humanities projects as well. In addition to the English major and several interdisciplinary minors, we offer a strong English Education major that prepares students to be NCATE-certified secondary education teachers of English. We offer as well two 4+1 programs that allow English majors to earn a BA in English followed by an MA in Teaching English as a Second Language, or an MA/MPA in public policy/public administration. Our faculty are given strong support to develop educational opportunities that engage our students within and beyond the classroom.
