ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF POLITICAL PSYCHOLOGY

THE UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE

DEPARTMENT OF POLITICAL SCIENCE AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF POLITICAL PSYCHOLOGY

The University of Delaware's academic leadership has identified the Department Political Science and International Relations (http://www.poscir.udel.edu ) (POSCIR) as a priority for academic growth and prominence. The POSCIR department aims to add a highly productive political psychology scholar to our nationally and internationally known faculty. The search is for a tenured associate professor of political psychology to begin September 1, 2018. While we anticipate making a tenured appointment at the Associate Professor level, we encourage advanced Assistant Professors to apply. The position will have a 75% appointment in POSCIR and a 25% appointment in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences (www.psych.udel.edu) (PSYCH).

We seek a scholar with an exemplary record of publishing, securing research funding, and teaching in political psychology. The ideal candidate will be a nationally and internationally recognized scholar with an interest in actively building the interdisciplinary political psychology field at UD, and developing an interdisciplinary political psychology lab.

We construe political psychology broadly, but are particularly interested in scholars who build upon our strengths in: the politics of racial, ethnic, gender, and other social identities; international security, conflict, and violence; political communication; the dynamics of public attitudes and behavior; and experimental and other research methodologies. The exact substantive area is open - scholarly excellence is preferred above all else. The successful candidate will have opportunities to associate with new facilities on campus, including the 11,600 square foot Center for Biomedical and Brain Imaging (https://www.psych.udel.edu/research/fmri-center), housing a 3T Siemens Magnetom Prisma and transcranial magnetic stimulation machine, and the newly formed Biden Institute (https://www.sppa.udel.edu/bideninstitute), a research and policy center devoted to solving the most pressing domestic policy problems facing America.

The PSYCH Department is simultaneously conducting a political psychology search (http://apply.interfolio.com/46266), with a 75% appointment in that department, and 25% in POSCIR. Applicants may wish to consider either position, depending on their primary discipline. The goal of this position, and others, is to strengthen the prominence and impact of collaborative interdisciplinary social science research at UD.

POSCIR, which resides within the College of Arts and Sciences, has 23 full-time faculty, nearly 850 undergraduate majors and minors and 39 graduate (mostly doctoral) students. The Department offers two undergraduate majors (Political Science and International Relations) and two undergraduate minors (Political Science and Political Communication) as well as a Ph.D. in Political Science. The department faculty covers four subfields of political science: American politics (including public law and U.S. foreign policy), comparative politics, international relations and political theory. The POSCIR faculty is methodologically diverse, and a collegial group of research-intensive scholars, outstanding teachers, engaged mentors, and committed advisers and public servants.

Applicants should submit a cover letter outlining interest in the position, academic strengths and proposed contributions to the above stated goals, and vision for a research laboratory; and a current CV that includes up to date contact information. The committee will request letters of recommendation at a later date. Questions, but not application materials, should be e-mailed to Professor Phil Jones (pejones@udel.edu), Chair, Political Psychology Search Committee. Review of applications will begin November 15, 2017 and will continue until the position is filled.
