Position Summary:
This position provides an opportunity for applied research on agronomy and physiology of field crops using novel remote sensing techniques. The position will be located within the Crop Physiology project at the Virginia Tech's Tidewater Agricultural Research and Experiment Center in Suffolk, VA. The main responsibilities include planning, scheduling, conducting, and coordinating detailed tasks as part of the assigned projects (75%). Collection and management of big field data and image visualization and analytics constitute major assignments, along with writing peer-reviewed publications, reports, and grant proposals.
A special responsibility is data management, analysis, and preparation of the annual Peanut Variety and Quality Evaluation and Sorghum Official Variety Trials reports (25%). The position requires weekly travel to the testing sites in southeastern Virginia, constant communication with collaborators in North Carolina and South Carolina, and occasional travels to meetings in these states. The position requires a solid understanding of agronomic and plant science principles, accuracy with data collection, and work well with others in a team.

Required Qualifications:
• M.S. degree in Agricultural Engineering, Agronomy, Biosystems Engineering, Computer Science, Plant Physiology, or related disciplines.
• Agricultural research experience.
• Data analytics experience including but not limited to statistical analysis software such as SAS , JMP , or Systat.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English (in oral and writing); follow orders; good organizational skills; and maintain a valid driving license and record.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Previous project management experience.
• Experience to organize and coordinate technicians, undergraduate, and graduate students, and experience in working with field crops documented by publications.
• A Ph.D. in an agricultural discipline, with preference to crop science or related area.
• Good writing skills; particularly with respect to report writing and editing.
