Application Deadline

Overview

The position of Executive Director of Leadership Gifts is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced fundraiser and manager to serve as both an internal and external ambassador for Princeton, working with colleagues, volunteers, and donors.

The Princeton University Office of Advancement secures philanthropic support for the University's highest priorities by engaging and stewarding Princeton's alumni, parents, and friends. We rely on strong partnerships with our volunteers and campus partners. Our strategy emphasizes the long view, honoring the relationships nurtured by those who came before us and empowering those who come after us to successfully build on our efforts.

Reporting to the Deputy Vice President for Development, the Executive Director of Leadership Gifts (ED) provides coaching, mentoring, strategic direction and management of the Leadership Gifts staff. The Executive Director manages a pool of leadership gift prospects and has responsibility for the overall success of the Leadership Gifts team. The ED works collaboratively and effectively with University Advancement offices engaged in fundraising and alumni relations at Princeton, including the Alumni Affairs Office, Annual Giving, Corporate and Foundation Relations, the offices within the areas of Development Relations and Development Information Services and the Office of the Vice President for Advancement.

Responsibilities

The ED directs and oversees the efforts of the Leadership Gifts Group, setting goals and measuring progress against goals for individuals and regions and provides coaching, mentoring, and strategic direction for the leadership gifts front-liners. The ED evaluates and provides performance feedback, with the DVP for Development, to the senior associate directors and works with them on providing feedback to their staff. The ED works with team members in developing individual strategies for prospects and regions. Working with the DVP for Development, ensures appropriate training and professional development for the Leadership Gifts team.

This position manages a small pool of donors, as assigned by the DVP for Development, with responsibility for the identification, engagement, solicitation, and stewardship of these donors at the highest levels. The ED raises significant support from these donors for University priorities as defined by Princeton's leadership and participates in the direct solicitation and closing of gifts while executing long-term strategies in conjunction with University staff and volunteers. The ED ensures that solicitation activities are closely coordinated with colleagues in annual giving and, as appropriate, in gift planning.

The ED has specific responsibility for the successful deployment of capital volunteers and ensures that volunteers are properly trained, staffed, deployed, and satisfied with support from Princeton. The ED facilitates front-liners' work with volunteers and provides staff with training on volunteer management.
