Overview

Princeton University's Office of Information Technology is seeking a talented A/V Engineer/Designer to join its Instructional Support Services (ISS) team. The A/V engineer/designer is responsible for implementing the developed A/V standard to enhance teaching and learning in learning spaces across campus, and will also participate in the design and creation of AV documentation for multiple learning space renovations. This work includes document creation, design engineering, consultation, and lifecycle repair and maintenance of an active AV/IT environment with both innovative, cutting-edge technology, as well as legacy equipment and evolving infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise and the application of best practices in the field of AV engineering and design, supporting integrated systems development, maintenance support, documentation and infrastructure architecture
  • Create and update technical drawings, signal flow diagrams, and integrated systems designs using standard software, such as CAD and Visio
  • Create drawings depicting layout, dimensions and requirements of AV systems, including comprehensive diagrams of the electrical and data infrastructure for bidding and construction of electrical and other related infrastructure to support the AV system
  • Along with the ISS team, collaborate with Facilities and consultants for the design and construction requirements to support the A/V systems
  • Work closely with the OIT Learning Support Services (LSS) team, providing field consultation on the repair, replacement, and creation of engineered solutions of equipment and infrastructure to keep systems and technology functional and performing to standard
  • Collaborate with OIT and campus customers to provide effective engineering solutions
  • Interact and work collaboratively with outside A/V consultants and contractors to ensure quality of work and organizational standards are met. Apply troubleshooting best practices and root cause analysis to identify weaknesses, minimize recurrence of issues, and improve future design and integration
  • Partner with the LSS manager to maintain A/V design stability and integrity by developing design schedules, proactively managing changes in project scope, identifying potential pitfalls and devising contingency plans
  • Working with the LSS manager and associate director, guide and support installation projects to ensure projects are completed on time, on budget, and within scope
  • Research and keep abreast of industry trends, advising management on the benefits and impact of related decisions on operations
  • Frequently collaborate with installers, electrical contractors, and network integration specialists
  • Train audiovisual technical staff on A/V engineering, systems troubleshooting, new equipment features, and other related A/V matters
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as an A/V engineer with responsibility for producing designs and AV-infrastructure drawings
  • 5 to 8 years of A/V experience working in higher-education or equivalent industry experience
  • Ability to create, read and notate on high-level schematics, signal flow diagrams and construction/architectural drawings
  • In-depth knowledge of best-in-class and legacy A/V and multimedia systems and equipment used in higher-education
  • Familiar with all types of AV equipment and control systems, including Extron, Crestron, and Dante
  • Demonstrated expertise in analyzing and solving complex technical problems related to connectivity and A/V equipment, and an interest in developing new strategies
  • Strong strategic writing and engineering documentation skills
  • Proficient understanding of LAN/WAN hardware and software for switches, hubs, routers, bridges, point-to-point data circuits via copper, and fiber for audio and video and control
  • Experience maintaining high/low-end video projectors and displays such as Christie, Sony, NEC
  • Ability to liaise with manufacturers and integrators to install, test, and recalibrate new or repaired gear
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD; familiarity with Revit would be helpful
  • Strong interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively independently or in a team
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple, competing assignments
  • Commitment to service excellence and to keeping abreast of trends in A/V design and engineering as it applies to enhancing teaching and learning
  • Candidates should be prepared to provide a portfolio of A/V flow diagrams and related construction and architectural drawings

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience supporting A/V in a higher education environment
  • Experience with or certifications in architecture and electrical software systems, such as AutoCAD
  • InfoComm (CTS, CTS-D and/or CTS-I), or other related certifications preferred


EDUCATION
  • Bachelor's degree in electronic engineering or related field, or equivalent related industry experience
