Visiting Assistant Professor

Job Summary
The Environmental Studies and Sciences Program at Skidmore College invites applications for a two year Visiting Assistant Professor beginning Fall 2018. We seek an interdisciplinary, natural scientist who has expertise in land cover and land-use change, and who explores the impact of different land use patterns and design on ecological function and community resiliency in natural and human-dominated settings. We envision a hire who can engage our students in courses and research aimed at managing and restoring ecosystems and landscapes for improved water quality, biodiversity conservation, agriculture systems, climate change mitigation, and public health. We are especially interested in candidates from under-represented groups as well as individuals who have experience with diverse populations who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching and/or service.
Within the context of an 18 contact hour teaching load per year, the position will participate in our introductory courses and also offer rigorous 200- and 300-level dedicated environmental science courses.

Skidmore is a liberal arts institution of approximately 2,400 students, with 21% students of color, and 248 full-time faculty members, located in upstate New York. Enthusiasm for teaching a diverse population of students is essential.

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates could have a background in water resources, urban ecology, restoration ecology, aquatic or terrestrial ecology, or sustainable systems. Candidates should have a Ph.D. and teaching experience.
