Visiting Assistant Professor

Job Summary
The Political Science Department at Skidmore College invites applications for a one year Visiting Assistant Professor position in American Government with a specialization in public law. The appointment will begin in fall 2018. We encourage applications from historically under-represented groups as well as individuals who have experience with diverse student populations. The College is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching, research, and/or service.The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in public law and American politics that will include Introduction to American Politics, Constitutional Law, and Civil Liberties. The successful candidate will also have the option to teach special topics courses that coincide with his or her particular teaching or research interests. The normal teaching load is 3-2. The Department is committed to limiting as much as possible the course preparations of new faculty.

Skidmore is a liberal arts institution with 248 full-time faculty (including 11 faculty in the Political Science Department) and approximately 2,400 students, 21% of whom are of color. Enthusiasm for teaching a diverse population of students is essential.

A Ph.D. in Political Science at time of appointment is strongly preferred.
