Serving as a key contributor to fundraising and engagement strategies directed toward Simmons's community, the Assistant Director of Advancement Communications is responsible for managing the implementation strategies of the Director of Advancement Marketing and Communications for copy generation and graphic design needs for Advancement. The Assistant Director interprets and delivers appropriate format and graphic design to meet specific marketing/communication goals for Advancement.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in graphic design and copy writing and is deadline focused with a proven track record in project management. The Assistant Director will work closely with key advancement teams namely Alumni and Donor Engagement, Annual Giving, and Capital Gifts.

Print and Graphic Design
  • Conceptualizes, designs, and produces print and online communications for all groups within the Advancement Division.
  • Analyzes communications challenges and provides strategic design solutions to address needs and meet goals.
  • Ensures the Simmons brand identity and marketing efforts through online, print, direct-mail pieces for Advancement. Oversees design consistency and graphic standards across all communication efforts for the Advancement division to ensure print presence is reflective of Simmons alumnae/i audience tone, personality, and demographic.
  • Maintains the editorial calendar for all advancement communications.
  • Acts as liaison between Simmons Central Marketing department, the Digital Strategist, and Advancement to ensure consistent brand identity.

Project Management and Vendor Liaison
  • Working within budget parameters, manages the print production process in collaboration with the printer; initiates, contracts, and provides creative direction.
  • Approves all printer proofs and assures that the deliverable is consistent with the Advancement strategy before it is distributed to Advancement and Simmons partners.
  • Serves as project manager on communications to ensure projects are completed on schedule in a fiscally responsible manner and makes cost saving suggestions when appropriate.
  • Works with print vendors to stay abreast of the most recent developments in the area of environmentally responsible print practices.

Creative Design and Advancement Support
  • Oversees and directs design interns, student workers, and web design.
  • Assists and mentors in the editorial process for student magazines and production.
  • Assists in developing strategy around alumnae/i online community (Alumnet).
  • Serves as a backup for all email communications and online communications.
  • Actively participates in the strategy, planning, and execution of the communications function; collaborates with members of the Advancement team, and other staff and faculty throughout the College as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required;
  • Two to three years of work experience preferred in marketing and communications or related field (higher education, non-profit or agency setting is a plus);
  • Possess knowledge of effective marketing and communication strategies and best practices;
  • Demonstrates excellent writing, editing and communication skills;
  • A self-motivated, detail-oriented professional with excellent organizational skills, strong customer service orientation, and ability to work effectively in an independent and interdependent setting;
  • Flexibility with changes in task and priorities along with using sound judgment.
