Master Instructor - Medical Technologies

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s degree with two (2) years of teaching/clinical coordination experience in Medical Technology or a related field;
  • Minimum of three (3) years of current experience in Medical Technology clinical lab(s);
  • Current certification through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as a Medical Technologist,
  • Current knowledge and technical practice skills as a medical technologist in all areas of the laboratory;
  • Proficiency in instruction, curriculum design, program planning, and counseling;
  • Accreditation and proven experience in academic/clinical coordination;
  • Licensed as a Florida State Medical Technologist in all five areas, or eligible for licensing;
  • Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written;
  • Ability to work with and teach to diverse populations is essential;
  • Ability to apply traditional and innovative technologies is essential;
  • Ability to develop and/or implement strategies to support students’ course success, retention, and program completion is essential;
  • All instructors must meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACS).  

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Providing lecture and laboratory courses in Clinical Chemistry, Instrumentation, Hematology, Immunology, Immunohematology, Clinical Microbiology, Urinalysis and Body Fluids, and Phlebotomy; 
  • Designing curriculum;
  • Organizing and providing educational experiences leading to student credentialing and gainful employment as a medical lab technician;
  • Establishing program and mission criteria;
  • Recruiting of students;
  • Instructing in the clinical curriculum;
  • Maintaining accreditation status for the program; 
  • Serving the community;
  • Serving effectively on college committees.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.    Developing and implementing the Medical Lab Technology program and its curriculum.

2.    Collaborating with faculty and staff in program development and delivery of the programs in the Health Sciences Division.

3.    Coordinating clinical internships with area hospital laboratories and clinics.

4.    Instructing effectively courses in Medical Lab Technology theory and skills as well as related subjects.

5.    Compiling all documents and completing other requirements of the accreditation process.

6.    Evaluating student progress through examinations and observations of performance.

7.    Actively supporting student success through individual counseling and advising.

8.    Supporting students’ professional development through appropriate organizations.

9.    Participating in department, division, and general faculty meetings, applicable college committee activities, and other forms of college service.

10.  Maintaining an active program of professional development related to individual, professional, and institutional needs.

11.  Maintaining positive communication with affiliating health care agencies.

12.  Making recommendations on budgetary, curriculum and program management matters.

13.  Completing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical requirements for this position include:  Having the physical abilities sufficient to move from room to room and maneuver in small spaces; possessing a high degree of flexibility; auditory abilities sufficient to monitor and assess laboratory and student needs; having the visual discrimination to be able to read charts and graphs, read instrument scales, discriminate colors, read microscopic materials, and record results; seeing objects as far away as in driving; seeing objects closely as in reading patient sample information and test instrument data; differentiating colors and visual structures as in reading microscope slides, labels, color comparison charts and warning symbols; and moderate muscular strength is needed as the candidate may be pushing, pulling and lifting objects more than twenty (20) pounds.  This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, and stoop.  It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, telephone, and other equipment as necessary.  IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
