Position Summary:
Reporting to the Facilities Department's Senior Associate Director of Utilities, the Director of Electric Service - Virginia Tech Electric Service supervises all operational activities within Virginia Tech Electric Service ( VTES ), to include central primary distribution of electricity on campus and for approximately 6,000 accounts within the Town of Blacksburg. The incumbent will be responsible for safe operation of the VTES system. Assists with and reviews submission and administration of an annual operating budget of approximately $34 million along with a deferred maintenance budget of between $5-10 million annually. Oversees human resource concerns for approximately 30 employees. Develops a collaborative relationship with other units within Facilities. Ensures reliable operation of the electric utility through routine maintenance, emergency maintenance, and other preventative maintenance. Works to develop a positive relationship with campus and town customers. Provides leadership and mentoring to managers and supervisors within unit.
Required Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in business, engineering, or related field or training and work experience that equates to an advanced degree.
- Significant management level experience in a major electric utility operation, including familiarity with FERC and State regulatory agencies, utility rate structures, and guidelines concerning electric utilities.
- Considerable experience at the management level with facilities management, budgeting, human resource management, fiscal administration, client management, and project planning.
- Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards relating to the electric utility industry.
- Excellent communication skills including the ability to communicate with a diverse customer base in a variety of settings.
- Demonstrated commitment to excellent service delivery to customers, administrators, colleagues, employees, students, and other constituent groups.
- Working knowledge of WORD , EXCEL and POWER POINT .
- Valid drivers' license.
