Studio Manager in Metals (Jewelry and Metalworking) - Tufts Technology Services

The School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University seeks applications for a full-time Studio Manager in Metals.

The Studio Manager manages and maintains fine arts studios in metals, (including facilities, affiliated classrooms, equipment, processes, documentation and training, and inventory of materials and supplies) ensuring that they are equipped, supplied, and configured to support the academic and creative goals of faculty and student users. The Studio Manager provides technical support services to faculty and students, including advising, instructing and assisting in the design, creation, and display of metals projects.


Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:
  • The following required knowledge and skills as typically acquired by completing a Bachelor s degree in fine arts or a related field or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3-5 years of related professional experience related to studio area.
  • Work independently and troubleshoot problems with minimal supervision.
  • A proficiency with the tools and processes of jewelry and metalworking within a fine arts context including: gas and oxygen torches, flex shafts, centrifugal casting machine, digital programmable kilns for enameling and burn out kilns for casting metal, rolling mills and hydraulic presses for forming metal, anvils, stakes and vices for forming metal, pulse arc welder for connecting metals, and a large number of hand tools available to the students for check out.
  • A demonstrated ability to support students with a wide range of cross-disciplinary interests; excellent interpersonal skills, including clarity, generosity, and creativity.
  • Proficient written, verbal and interpersonal skills in order to work pleasantly and tactfully with a diverse community; including fellow employees, faculty, students and staff.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, organizational and time management skills including the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and independently manage a changing workload and schedule in a wide variety of settings and situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver professional customer service, end user training and consultation, effective team and project work.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master s degree in the fine arts or related field.
  • Experience in delivering training or instruction.
