Assistant Professor, Music

The Music Department at Wheaton College (MA) invites applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor position beginning in the Fall of 2018.

We seek competencies in industry-standard software platforms, knowledge of hardware, and possibly a background in commercial music, to teach in our theory/analysis curriculum and to help develop course(s) in multimedia composition/recording. In addition, we seek a breadth of interests and competencies and a passion for teaching music within a liberal arts framework. Other responsibilities of the position will include periodically teaching an interdisciplinary First-Year Seminar, intended for the general student population; a Senior Seminar for majors; and various departmental service courses as needed. Familiarity with at least one non-Western system of music is desirable. The ideal candidate will be energetic, creative, and collegial, with an appreciation for music's role in society and a willingness to consider how a liberal arts education in music will help graduates contribute powerfully to an increasingly multicultural and globalized society.

The Music Department at Wheaton College has long valued musical traditions from around the world. We work together as a community of musicologists, ethnomusicologists, theorists, composers, and performers, and value each other's contributions to music. We welcome a colleague who will join a vital academic department in which different music systems are reflected in the courses we teach. As we are carrying on a college-wide curriculum review, this new colleague will help shape the Music Department of the future.
