Media Services Technician

The Media Services Technician assists in providing a broad base of audio and video support to smart, electronic classrooms and events on campus.

Functions of the Media Services Technician include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide professional public address audiovisual set ups, audio and video recording, editing, and duplication of different media formats and other services to faculty and staff.
- Ensure the safe and proper operation of all equipment.
- Provide technical support services including installation, inventory, and maintenance of department equipment supporting classrooms, events and other college activities requiring support.
- Responsible for closing and securing classrooms in the evening so that they are operational for academic classes the following morning.
- Perform routine maintenance, cleaning and troubleshoot hardware/software problems and arrange for onsite/offsite service as needed.
- Coordinate the activities of student assistants during all shifts supporting events.
- Train students on classroom equipment and sound systems, including soundboards and wireless microphones.
- Provide training as required for faculty, students, and other groups in the use of audio/visual materials and methods and instructional technology resources.
- Maintain the Media Services call tracking and assignment inventory system.
- Maintain documentation for equipment.
- Provide reports as needed on room usage, technical needs and other requests.

Minimum Qualifications:
- This position requires availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Hours will vary depending on event scheduling. The current academic year schedule for this position is Monday-Thursday from 2:30pm to 10:30pm, and Saturday from 8am to 4pm. Scheduled hours may differ during the non-academic year months.
- Bachelor's degree in media or educational technology and experience working with public address systems and wireless microphones required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience working with soundboards, speakers, stage monitors, EQ, reverb, computer projection, presentation software, and videotaping techniques.
- Experience with (or willingness to learn to use) the department s tracking system database for complex record keeping and report writing.
- Working knowledge of editing software & finalization of videos, as well as a basic working knowledge of PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of AV terminology, and competence in diagnosing and troubleshooting problems with audiovisual equipment.
- Supervisory experience and strong interest in mentoring student employees.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and strong public service orientation.
- Team orientation, flexibility, versatility, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a complex and changing public service environment.
- Well-organized, with strong analytical, problem-solving, and multi-tasking skills.
- Patience in working with older and newer technology.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, and ability to write documentation and present training sessions to individuals or large groups.
- Creative problem-solving abilities, initiative, perseverance and intellectual curiosity.
- Flexibility to adjust and thrive in a changing work place.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in supervising students.
- Experience in analogue and digital editing and sound reinforcement/production.

Physical Demands
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- This position could on occasion require bending, reaching, ascending and descending ladders and stairs, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, and pulling.
