Assistant Dean


Brief Summary:

  • The School of Communication and the Arts seeks an assistant dean to facilitate School efforts in service to and instruction of all undergraduate and graduate students. These support responsibilities include assisting with assessment, curricular development, grant management, student issues and advising, and co-curricular initiatives. The Assistant Dean also serves as a full-time faculty member.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Summary of Responsibilities The Assistant Dean for the School of Communication and the Arts works with the Dean of the School to assure excellence and continued improvement across all departments. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with faculty on grant proposals, including assistance researching funding sources; designing/developing fundable grant projects and project goals/objectives
  • Work closely with the dean, department chairs, program directors, and faculty to develop long- and short-range goals and metrics to measure success, including organizing and managing assessment process, writing annual assessment reports.
  • With the Dean, coordinate and assist with School curricular revisions and proposals.
  • Supervises the School of Communication and the Arts Advising Center, including its staffing.
  • Reviews requests from students for exceptions to policies, including grade appeals.
  • In conjunction with faculty and staff, develops and implements co-curricular programming for the School of Communication and the Arts.
General Duties
  • Participates in ceremonial activities of the school, including convocation, school celebrations and commencement.
  • Hold faculty rank and teach 2 courses per semester.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of faculty, students, administration and alumni.
  • Understanding of the academic programming needs regionally, nationally and internationally.
  • Knowledge of current practices and trends in undergraduate education.
  • Ability to handle sensitive issues in a professional and discreet manner.
  • Terminal degree in a discipline represented with the School of Communication and the Arts preferred.
  • Administrative experience desired.
